Department of Psychology

The Department of Psychology was established in 1995. A special level for BA program was introduced in 2006, & in 2010 the MA program started. The department introduced a one-year diploma course named Postgraduate Diploma in School Psychology in 2014. Which was restructured in 2024 and renamed Advanced Course in School Psychology. From academic year 2023-24, the Ph.D. center has been introduced under the guidance of the head of the department, Dr. S.B. Walke.

From 2023-24, as college become autonomous, the department has developed a syllabus according to UGC NEP 2020 guidelines and now provides an independent syllabus through a variety of courses.

Currently the department has a good infrastructure facility. The department is occupied with a spacious experimental laboratory having 8 cubicles for smooth conduction and administration of tests & experiments, which is now extending to 15 cubicles, including a spacious staff room and psychology bookshelf. The psychology laboratory is full of various types of standardized psychological tests and experimental apparatus. There are hundreds of tests that measure different aspects of human behavior.

The department also provides counseling services to students as well as society. The department established a counseling center in 2010, with the help of the Human Organization Society, Pune, which is a renowned counseling institute; the department organized counseling camps for various people.

In the year 2024 the department has started a Mental Health & Well-Being Club, which focuses on students' personal growth and development as well as making awareness about their mental health and well-being.

Various types of activities and workshops are run by the department throughout the academic year. Such as Skill Development, Ability Assessment, Psychological Testing, mental health awareness, etc. The department always attempts to enrich students' academic performances through field visits, educational tours to mental hospitals and rehabilitation centres and.

  • Well-equipped Laboratories with classical assessment apparatus

  • 50+ psychometric assessment tools (including TAT, CAT, NEO personality profile and clinical testing)

Teaching Methods

Lecture method

  • Lectures last 45 minutes and there will be four per week for BA course. Lectures take place in classrooms, with one teacher responsible for each course.
  • For MA and ACSP (previously known as PGDSP) course 1 hr. lecture and four lectures per subject per week.
  • For lecture methods the skilled faculty uses various methods like discussion, demonstration, PPT presentations. 
  • Videos of psychological experiments are used by faculty and students.

Psychological Practical Method

  • There is a practical course assigned from the first year of BA course and First year of MA Course.
  • During practical lectures students will be provided with demonstrations of tests and experiments and afterwards they conduct actual experiments and administer the psychological test with another student. 
  • This method allowed them to understand and apply administration of tests ethically and interpret the results about subjects.

Project and Practicum Method

  • Project work is compulsory for MA Second year students. In first term students make proposals and pilot study and then complete the full on project in second semester. Research topics are related to day to day life, trends and current psychological issues.
  • Practicum work allowed the students to practice their counselling skills and to handle different psychological cases. There are two special level subject 1) Clinical Psychology 2) Counselling Psychology 
  • Clinical Psychology students studies mental disorder cases in mental hospital and counselling psychology students studies different types of behavioural problems.
  • SPSS software used for analysis of psychological data for research projects.

Google Classroom

  • Google Classroom Facility used by faculty as well as students. 
  • Students are enrolled according to class in google classroom. 
  • Every academic information is provided on google classroom like exam notices, powerpoint presentation, study related material etc.

  • Registered as "Rehabilitation Psychologist" with the Rehabilitation Council of India. CRR No-A18859.
  • Recognition as a PG Teacher, M.Phil & Ph.D. Research Guide from 23/12/2019 of SPPU, Pune.
  • APA Membership as elected teacher status for the year 2021.
  • Organizing Secretary for a National level seminar on “National Education Policy-2020 & its implementation” in collaboration with dept. of Commerce on 10th and 11th  January, 2023 at PDEA’s Annasaheb Waghire College of Arts, Com. & Science, A/P - Otur, Tal.- Junner, Dist.- Pune

Counselling Services

Department of Psychology runs counselling centre from 2010. Also formed Mental Health Club in 2023. Through this department organize counselling camps for society as well as students of college. There are some counselling areas as follows:

Diploma Course

  • Department runs Post Graduate Diploma in School Psychology (PGDSP) course from academic year 2017-18.
  • In 2024-25 this course in restructured as per NEP 2020 and autonomous guidelines and renamed as Advanced Course in School Psychology.
  • This course is runs only at two Institutes, first institute is Jnana Prabodhini, Pune and second is our institute Prof. Ramkrishna More Arts, Commerce & Science College, Akurdi. This is a professional course.
